Buckle Up PA would like to thank our partners for participating in the 2019 Thanksgiving Mobilization. This year we funded 275 departments across Pennsylvania to specifically target occupant protection violations and promote seat belt usage.
During this mobilization, officers made 15,079 contacts and issued 11,376 citations. Of those 11,376 citations, 910 were directly related to seat belt violations. An additional 289 warnings were issued for seat belt violations.
These high visibility enforcement programs, combined with education and outreach, remain an effective countermeasure for increasing seat belt usage. Public outreach promotes a positive image of the law enforcement community and provides an opportunity to share the message that seat belts save lives.
I encourage you and your department to adopt a year-round seat belt enforcement plan. Sustained enforcement can have a positive effect on increasing seat belt usage. Please contact your Occupant Protection Regional LEL if you have any questions or you would like to schedule training for your department.
Thank you again for your support of the Buckle Up PA program and we wish you a safe and happy 2020.
