PA ADEEP Wave 2 to kick off March 16, 2020
PA Aggressive Driving
The first of the 2019-2020 Aggressive Driving Waves was completed October 21 thru November 17, 2019. 215 Municipal Law Enforcement Agencies and PSP from 15 Troops participated in the Wave. Municipal Agencies recorded 8.692 contacts during the 4-week Wave. There were 4,164 speeding related citations written. Failure to Obey Traffic Control Signals or Signs was second highest with 704 citations, followed by Obedience to Traffic Control Devices with 664 citations. One Hundred forty-eight (148) citations were issued for Occupant Protection violations. Additional arrests were a direct result of the officer’s initial traffic contact. There were 5 Felony, 18 DUI (Alcohol Only), DUID 11 (Drugs Only), 3 DUI/DUID and 26 Fugitives arrested.
The second Aggressive Driving Wave is scheduled for March 16 to April 26, 2020. There are over 200 municipal police agencies and the Pennsylvania State Police scheduled to participate to reduce the number of aggressive driving related crashes, injuries and deaths on Commonwealth roadways.
The focus for this 6-week enforcement Wave is speeding, work zone safety, and distracted driving. Motorists exhibiting other unsafe behaviors such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, illegally passing stopped school buses, or other aggressive actions will also be cited. Wave 2 coincides with National Distracted Driving Month (April) and National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 20-24).
Participating agencies will use Traffic Enforcement Zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement and multi-jurisdictional patrol strategies to identify and cite aggressive drivers.
The PA Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project wishes to thank participating law enforcement agencies for their commitment to traffic safety. The reduction of crashes, injuries and deaths on Pennsylvania roadways are due to law enforcement efforts.
